History. Heritage. Trust.

The Buda Fire Department is a combination career/volunteer fire department. We provide fire suppression and EMS service to a 75 square mile area of northeast Hays County, including the cities of Buda and Hays. We are situated 15 miles south of Austin, Texas along the Interstate 35 corridor. Hays county is among the fastest growing of counties in the state of Texas. Established in 1956, the department became part of the Northeast Hays County Rural Fire Prevention District (NEHCRFPD) in 1985 which allowed the fire department to be funded by tax money. In July of 2003 this was converted to Hays County Emergency Service District #8. In October 2010, Hays County Emergency Service DIstrict #2 contracted with the Buda Fire Department to provide Emergency Medical Services.

The Buda Fire Department has approximately 15 volunteers, 30 career firefighters, a career chief, an EMS chief, and a fire marshal, who respond to an average of 1400 calls annually out of three fire stations. Station 1 houses our administrative offices and apparatus for our volunteer members. Stations 2 and 3 are staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year with career firefighters manning one engine company and one ambulance. Our volunteers members are on call. All of our career staff as well as many of our volunteers are commissioned by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Buda Fire Department is a member of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association, and is compliant with the standards established by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

In addition to Fire and EMS services the BFD strives to be an excellent community partner by conducting CPR Classes, Free Smoke Detector programs, Fill the Boot for the MDA, as well as attending many annual Buda events like Budafest, Red White and Buda, and the Lion's Club BBQ Cook-Off.
