Welcome to
the Buda Fire Department Website!
The Buda Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire
department. We provide fire suppression and EMS first response to a 72
square mile area of northeast Hays County, including the cities of Buda
and Hays. We are situated 15 miles south of Austin, Texas along the
Interstate 35 corridor. Hays county is among the fastest growing of
counties in the state of Texas. Established in 1956, the department
became part of the Northeast Hays County Rural Fire Prevention District
(NEHCRFPD) in 1985 which allowed the fire department to be funded by tax
money. In July of 2003 this was converted to Hays County Emergency
Service District #8.
The Buda Fire Department has approximately 20 volunteers, 18 career
firefighters, a career chief, and a fire marshal who respond to an
average of 1300 calls annually. Station 1 is staffed 24 hours a
day/365 days a year with a crew of four career firefighter/EMTs and
Station 3 is staffed 24 hours a day with two career firefighter/EMTs . Our
volunteers members are on call. All of our career staff as well as
several of our volunteers are commissioned by the Texas Commission on
Fire Protection and are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians. Our
volunteers receive in-house training and are encouraged to attend
additional training including: the annual Texas A&M municipal fire
school, and training in the topics of swift water rescue, vehicle
extrication, wild land fire fighting, and EMS. The Buda Fire Department
is a member of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association, and
is compliant with the standards established by the Texas Commission on
Fire Protection.
In addition to Fire
and EMS services the BFD strives to be an excellent community partner
conducting CPR Classes, Free Smoke Detector programs, Fill the Boot for
the MDA, as well as attending many annual Buda events like Budafest, Red
White and Buda, and the Lion's Club BBQ Cook-Off.
