Rep. Doggett Announces Over
$600,000 for Buda Fire Department
Washington, D.C.
– Local U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett announced today that the Buda Fire
Department will be receiving $600,000 in federal funds from Assistance to
Firefighters Grant Program from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“I commend our first responders
for unselfishly working to protect the people and property of our community,”
said Congressman Doggett, a senior Member of the House Ways & Means Committee
and the House Budget Committee. “Especially in areas of high growth, it is
essential to fully staff emergency services so we have first responders we need
in emergencies.”
The federal grant will staff six
round-the-clock positions at the new Fire Station to be opened just west of
Buda.
“This is perfect timing to hear
news of these funds just as construction on the new facility is being
completed. Without this grant, we would have the building ready, but no
professional staff to fill it,” said Buda Fire Chief Clay Huckaby. “This
funding ensures we are prepared for disaster and emergencies, not just in Buda
but in the surrounding county.”
The Assistance to Firefighters
Grant Program awards federal grants directly to fire departments and emergency
medical service (EMS) organizations to enhance the ability of first responders
to protect public health and safety.
